Marian L. Larive

Marian passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living at the age of 93 years. She was born on January 23, 1927 in Lansing, Michigan to the late John E. and Edna (Stone) Beecham. Marian married Zane D. Larive on October 25, 1947 at Westminster Presbyterian Church and he preceded her in death in 1995. She was a fifty year member of Westminster where she was active in her church. She taught Sunday school, was a deacon and a member of the Lydia Circle. Marian was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 1010. She grew up in the Sterling area and graduated from Sterling High School in 1945. At Sterling High School she played on the state champion basketball team where it was a six member team. Three girls played half-court defense and three girls played half-court offense. After graduation she came to Bay City and worked at Prestolite. When her boys were older she began working as a secretary at Bay City public schools retiring in 1989 after twenty years. Marian loved being a school secretary working with the children, she also loved dancing, traveling and the "annual garden planting day" with family.
Marian is survived by her three sons, Mark (Becky), Douglas (Mary) and Brian (Kelly); six grandchildren, Matthew (Becky), Brent (Stephanie), Martha (Jason), Elizabeth (James), Katelyn and Keri (Matt); fifteen great grandchildren, Caleb, Madeline, Sommer, Emma, Logan, Mason, Ava, Joel, Toby, Lilah, Rose, Miles, Vivienne, Kyle and Keagan; friend, Clare Shultz and many loved nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her father and mother, John (1974) and Edna (1997) Beecham; husband, Zane (1995); brother, Raymond (1989); sisters, Arthella (Arty) Ennis (2001) and Virginia Anderson and her dear friend, Ken Brissette.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 19, 2020. Officiating will be Rev. Linda Williams with private burial in Demorest Cemetery, Akron, Michigan. Friends may visit at the Gephart Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Larive will be taken to the church to lie in state on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Due to Covid-19 visitors must follow social distancing guidelines at the funeral home and at the church.
