Marie M. Sowa

Marie passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Cartel Inns of the Tri-Cities at the age of 84 years. The daughter of the late John and Emily (Willard) Betzold was born September 21, 1929, in Linwood, MI. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Over the years, Marie belonged to several card clubs, enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, loved watching old classic movies and the game show network. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends! Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years Paul C. Sowa whom she married July 14, 1951, one son and daughter-in-law; Mark and Patsy Sowa of Dallas, TX, one daughter and son-in-law; Louise and Stephan Jankowski of Sandusky, MI, her grandchildren; Ryan Sowa, Evan Sowa and Adam Jankowski, one great grandson; Aiden Sowa, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Frank and Jean Sowa, many nieces, nephews and their children. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Herbert (Helen) Betzold, Howard (Sophie) Betzold, Inez (Erwin) Cruthers, Irma (Lawrence) DeLong and John Betzold. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will take place Monday, November 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (906 S. Wenona, Bay City, MI 48706). Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm with private interment in St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. (201 W. Midland St., Bay City, MI 48706) on Sunday to greet family and friends from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Marie will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
