Mark R. Miller, 50, has passed to the undiscovered country, joining both of his grandfathers, Stanley Pearson M.D., and Donald Miller, whom he loved so well, and spent so many evenings with in conversation.
Mark lost a battle with drugs that he fought for the last fifteen years, one more victim of a plague that has taken so many of America's best. He leaves three children to cherish his memory, a daughter, Brittany Kunkel, 28 (Steve Kunkel) and his wonderful grandchildren, Leah, 5 and Lelan, 1; a son, Mark R. Miller, Jr. 24 (Natasha Alvarez); and a daughter, Mariah Miller 20 (Will Stender). All will miss him dearly. He also leaves the mothers of his children, Starr Thomas and Bambi Jones. Mark is also survived by his parents, Michelle Boyd (Mike Boyd) and Terry Miller (Barbara Handley-Miller) and four brothers, Matthew Miller, (Kari Miller), Gregory Miller, (Rachel Maid) Forrest Miller, and Logan Miller; his nieces Alexandria and Emma, and nephew Jackson. He is also survived by his grandmother, Norma Miller, at whose home in Brooks he had many Sunday dinners and family football games. And many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mark graduated from Delta College's nursing program earning an Associate in Applied Science degree and became a registered nurse. He worked for twelve years at McLaren Hospital in Bay City and Hurley Hospital in Flint. He was a team leader in the emergency room at McLaren, and he loved helping people. That was reflected in his beloved children's decision, knowing his wishes, to donate his organs for transplant or research through The Gift of Life organization - his last act as a nurse. Sunday night he touched two lives with the Gift of Life.
Mark had an abiding interest in science and philosophy and wrote an Existentialist Facebook site. He contributed to online poetry sites and was working on a book. He was an avid reader of literature and science, and loved University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football. Mark had a playful side in basketball, volleyball, and touch football games with his four brothers and son; enjoyed movies; carving pumpkins and playing scary music with his children on Halloween; and he loved rock music.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the professionalism and kindness of Saginaw's Covenant Cooper doctors and staff.
