Marlene Joan Phillips Bay City, Michigan Our loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Huron Woods Nursing Center with her family at her side. Age 63 years. The daughter of the Herbert and the late Rita (Savage) Phillips was born November 16, 1952 in Bay City, Michigan. She was formerly employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a dispatcher, she had a love for cooking, gardening, planting flowers, reading, camping, fishing and most of all she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren. Left behind to cherish her memories are two daughters; Christie (Matthew) Devos of Saginaw and Nichole Metevia-Garrett and their father; Chalmer Metevia Jr. of Kawkawlin, three grandchildren; Sebastian, Alexis and Alexandra, her father; Herb Phillips, two sisters; Marcia Phillips-Matthews, Karen (Craig Coger) Phillips, her special aunt and uncle; Joyce and Jim Dinsmore, her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her k-9 companion; Schutzie. She was preceded in death by her mother; Rita and a very special grandmother; Helen Willis. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Huron Woods and McLaren Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Marlene during the time they cared for her. Funeral and Committal Services will take place Friday January 29, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Officiating will be Jane Grzegorczyk with cremation following at Sunset Valley Crematory. The family will be present at the funeral home on Friday to receive visitors from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to Good Samaritan Rescue Mission or The Humane Society of Bay County.
