Martha Rebecca Moore, 100, of Bay City, Michigan, passed away on May 10, 2023.
Martha was born on December 22, 1922 to Charlie and Freda Gittins of Fraser Township.
After graduating high school, she spent one semester at a local community college. While working in a restaurant in Pinconning, she met Bernard B. Moore. Bernard was in the Navy and stationed at Treasure Island. Martha traveled by train from Michigan to California and they were married April 6, 1944 in San Francisco. They went on to have four children Charlene Fermer, Rebecca Nichols, Bernard S. Moore and Jamie Hartson.
Martha was predeceased by Bernard B. Moore, siblings, John Gittins, Irene Berner, Pauline Ware, Wesley Gittins and Ila McKinstry.
She is survived by sibling June Yonkey and children Charlene Fermer, Rebecca Nichols, Bernard S. Moore, Jamie Hartson, grandchildren Gretchen Fermer, Zuwena Hill, Rachel Schatzer, Emily Moore, Kenny Hartson, Margaret Abbott, Samuel Moore, and 14 great-grandchildren.
A date has not yet been set for the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Alzheimer’s Association, which also supports those with dementia, in Martha’s honor.
