Mr. Walter passed away Thursday morning, April 8, 2010 at Bay Regional Medical Center with his family at his side, age 80 years. He was born November 20, 1929 to the late John and Alma (Keidel) Walter in Bay County and has resided here all of his life. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Amelith, retired from Dow Chemical Company Midland Division and was a farmer. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Houghton Lake. He is survived by his wife of sixty years the former Lila A. Wegener whom he married on October 23, 1949 along with one daughter, Susie Wilking of Chebanse, IL; two sons and two daughters-in-law: Timothy and Teresa Walter of Millington and Rev. Jody and Bonnie Walter of Fredrick, WI; one grandson, Jamie Wilking of Chebanse, IL; two sisters, Harriet Rogers of Auburn and Doris Kundinger of Sebewaing, MI and his special dog, Tinker. He was predeceased by one daughter, Sandy Walter; two sons, Danny Walter and Mark Walter, one son-in-law, John Wilking and two grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob. Funeral services will take place Monday, April 12, 2010 at 12:00 O'Clock Noon at St. John's Lutheran Church of Amelith 1690 Amelith Road Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen P. Starke with interment following in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Walter will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 11:00 a.m. and until the time of service.
