Mary Elizabeth Swenson Luhrs

Mary Elizabeth Swenson Luhrs, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Bay City. She joined her beloved Robert Henry Luhrs on June 17, 2011. She was born in Oscoda, MI to Elmer & Belle Swenson. That is where she met the man of her dreams and love of her life, Bob, and together they raised six daughters - mostly in Harbor Beach, MI. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend and lived an honorable life filled with humor and laughter. Her strength, self-discipline and grace have been an example to us all. She was treasured and will be deeply missed. Mary lived a full and rich life and had no regrets. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, enjoyed golfing, bridge and volunteer activities. Bob predeceased Mary on December 29, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents Elmer & Belle, parents-in-law Henry & Florence, brother Harold, sister Irene and son-in-law Bill Edwards. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary Kathleen Harby (Bob), Susan Elizabeth Edwards, Pamela Ann Barrett (Bill Carpenter), Janet Patrice Sopczynski (Larry), Carolyn Louise Morgan (Eric) and Janie Beth Konsdorf. Also her grandchildren Rob, Derrick, Rich, Sara, Emily, Jacob, Matt, Rachael, Josh, Ian, Jenna and Luke and nine great-grandchildren. To honor Mary's generous heart, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heartland Hospice at 1426 Straits Drive, Bay City, MI 48706 or to the American Heart Association at www.americanheart.org . The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful people we met through Heartland who cared for us and our mother with tenderness and love. There will be a family memorial service in celebration of Mary's life.
