Mary Priscilla (Pert) Schweitzer (Doan) went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Born on February 26, 1922 in Bay City Michigan to Herman and Grace Doan the middle of 5 children, she lived to celebrate her 100th birthday.
On September 25, 1948, Pert married the love of her life Leonard Schweitzer and started married life in a small two bedroom house in Kawkawlin with Leonard's dad Carl. Then along came their first two sons Carl and Tom. When the third son, Todd came along, Leonard built a bigger home for the growing family. The home that Pert and Leonard built was a hub for family activities with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins always welcome for family events and time on the Schweitzer farm. Pert always loved having family around her along with neighbors and friends.
Pert's professional life was as a registered nurse. She was one of the nursing pioneers who established the Saginaw General Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She loving served hundreds of premature babies.
Also a huge part of Pert's live revolved around her church. From her first moments in life Pert was a member of Bay City's Christian Assembly. Pert sang in the choir, taught vacation bible school, and helped organize church pot lucks and other family related events. Knowing and serving Jesus was one of Pert's loves.
Pert's three boys - Carl (Susan), Tom (Connie) and Todd (Pam) were the center of her life. Pert was grandma to 5 grand daughters and 1 grand son (Christiana (Leif); Bethany (Zach); Nicole (Eric); Scott; Katie (Kim) and Kendra (Jeff), and 10 great grandchildren - each were an apple in her eye. As she did with each of her sons, she encouraged and prayed for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pert also loved each of her 19 nieces and nephews, who also equally adored her.
As much as Pert enjoyed life with her family she missed her parents and siblings and was excited to leave this world and be with Jesus and reunited with husband Leonard. Along with her sister Charlotte, brothers, Nathan, Clarence and Carl, Leonard's sisters Leona and Elaine, and great grandson Beau, and other family members and friends who preceded her into Jesus' arms.
Pert's family invites all family and friends to a viewing on Friday, May 27th at Christian Assembly Church (401 East Vermont) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. officiating will be Pastor Matt Place. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery.
Pert's family want to thank the Woodhaven Assisted Living staff for the excellent care they provided mom in her time there as a resident.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any donations be given to the Christian Assembly Church or the Nate Doan Santa House.
