Mary Jo passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the Toni and Trish House in Auburn, Michigan at the age of 89. She was born to the late Joseph Thomas and Evelyn (Reinke) Ryan on June 15, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan. Mary Jo was a Charter Member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish-Formerly St. Vincent de Paul Church. She was very involved in the Church community as a Eucharist Minister, Lector and a member of the Altar Society. Mary Jo enjoyed bringing people into the church through RCIA instruction and teaching CCD. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, was very involved in the community and volunteered for many kind things including driving cancer patients to and from their appointments.
Mary Jo was such a caring, selfless and loving person who accepted everyone. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, dancing, walking and spending time with her family. Mary Jo enjoyed hosting family gatherings and no one would ever leave her house hungry. Mary Jo possessed an uncommon wisdom in all areas of life.
Mary Jo is survived by her children, Thomas (Denise) Sequin, Karen (Timothy) Kochanny, Timothy (Nanette) Sequin, Rita (Rick) Howard, Cynthia (Craig) Neitzke and Jane (Michael) Brunette; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Kathryn ‘Kay” Marciniak, Patricia (Robert) Duyck, Ellen (Phil) Simonds and Ann (John) LaMarre and brother-in-law, Henry Mulders. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Sequin Sr.; infant son David John Sequin; sister, Jeanine Mulders; brother, Joseph Thomas “Tom” Ryan and Brother-in-law Ray Marciniak.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Toni and Trish House for their excellent care and support throughout this difficult time.
The family will be present to receive visitors at Gephart Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the St. Catherine of Siena Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. The Funeral Mass for Mary Jo will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Co-celebrants will be Father Luke M. Neitzke, OP and Father James Bessert. A vigil service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00pm at the funeral home; the Rosary will be prayed for Mary Jo following the vigil.
Memorial contributions may be made to Toni and Trish House or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
