Mr. Matthew R. Perry, of Bay City, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, April 27, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region, age 61. He was born on February 25, 1956 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Matthew attended high school in Midland and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Michigan, earning an Associate Degree from Ferris State University and a Bachelors from Saginaw Valley State University. Matthew worked for many years with Dow Corning at the Hemlock Semiconductor and most recently at S.C. Johnson in Bay City. He was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, and he was also the church's property manager.
On October 19, 2002, Matthew married the former Diana Lynn Robinson and she survives his passing along with his six children, Raymond Perry, Christopher (Jessica) Perry, Randolph Perry, Garrett (Alana) Perry, David Robinson and Joel (Erika Griffin) Pommerenke, Jr.; a granddaughter, Violet Rose Pommerenke; his mother, Ethel Perry-Selley; two brothers, Kirk (Barb) Perry and Fred (Char) Perry; a sister, Sue (Mike) Hunter; and many nieces and nephews. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Perry, Jr.; his step-father, Walt Selley; and his first wife, Caroline (Scandalito) Perry. It was Matthew's desire for cremation to take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Lee Austin. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gephart Funeral Home.
