Nate passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2014 in Lawrence Kansas. Age 38 years. He was born June 20, 1976 at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, MI. Nate was currently working on his PhD Degree at the University of Kansas in Behavioral Analysis. Nate had a great sense of humor and liked to make people smile. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Bob Dylan, going camping, playing scrabble and kite flying. He also enjoyed helping the less fortunate. He will be truly missed by all who knew him as "Cheerio" Left to cherish his memory is his wife of five years: Jennifer (Simon) Smith, his mother; Susan M. (De Catur) Smith ,one brother and sister-in-law; Phillip and Kristine Smith, his three nephews which he enjoyed; Phillip, Wayne and Robert, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Jim and Joan Simon, his grandmother; Mary DeCatur, his six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law; many aunts, uncles, his nieces and nephews, two great nephews, one great niece, many cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father; Phillip B. Smith, his grandparents; Robert DeCatur, Bird and Betty Smith, his uncles; Wayne Smith and Robert DeCatur and cousin; Ashley Porter. At Nate's request cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Kawkawlin Township Pavilion Park on Parish Rd.
