Nicholas passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Great Lakes Rehab Center in Saginaw, Michigan at the age of 87. He was born to the late Anthony and Josephine (Czuprynski) Kaczmarek on December 6, 1937 in Hampton Township, Essexville, Michigan. He was a man of faith, and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish for many years. He volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry of St. Catherine of Siena as well as numerous events for the Knights of Columbus #2740. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army as a medic. Prior to working for Consumers, he was a Public Safety Officer in Essexville for 6 years. After 30 years, Nicholas retired from Consumers Power Karn Weadock Plant. After retiring, he always kept busy and found things to do. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #2740 in Essexville, and also a Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a former Navigator of the John F. Kennedy Assembly #503 in Essexville, as well as a member of the Utility Workers Union Local #144.
Nicholas enjoyed going on casino trips, camping and traveling to Arizona, reading and playing cards, especially cribbage and euchre. He was a Detroit Tigers fan and a Notre Dame fan as well. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was proud of every single one of them. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals and many other events, he never missed them.
Nicholas is survived by his bride of 64 years, Joanne K. (LaForge) Kaczmarek; children, Kimberly (Scott) Germain, Nicholas (Linda) Kaczmarek II, Kellie (Tom) Deming and Chris (Teresa) Kaczmarek; grandchildren, Tyler (Elyse Vigiletti) Germain, Weston (Colleen Guidot) Germain, Carlie (Tyler) Provow, Elizabeth Kaczmarek, Nicholas Kaczmarek III, John Kaczmarek, Owen Deming, Jarret (Jennifer) Deming, Thane Deming, Erin Kaczmarek, Cameron Kaczmarek and Morgan Kaczmarek; great grandchildren, Gabriel and Isaac Vigiletti-Germain, Simon and Logan Germain, Leah Provow and two more on the way; sister-in-law’s, Luella Kaczmarek, Jackie (George) Whiteman, Jan (Dale) Bargeron and Jerri (Roy) Heiter; brother-in-law, Greg Marks and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis Kaczmarek, Joseph (Hilda) Kaczmarek, Phillip (Florence) Kaczmarek and Anthony Kaczmarek; sister, Rose Marie (Ben) Connelly; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Anna LaForge and sister-in-law’s, Judy Marks and Joyce (Dennis) Petrimoulx.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. Officiated by Bishop Robert Gruss and Fr. Jim Bessert as the Homilist. A private inurnment will be taking place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later time. The family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home. There will be a Bible Presentation presented by the Knight of Columbus #2740 at 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service for Nicholas to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or the Knights of Columbus #2740 Scholarship Fund.
