Rev. Robert P. Mueller

The Rev. Robert P. Mueller of Bay City was called to meet his Savior, Jesus, on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the age of 88 years. Robert was born in Bay City on October 31, 1931 to the late Herman and Beatrice (Lange) Mueller. He was educated in Zion Lutheran School of Bay City and graduated from Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw. Four years later from Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin and received his theological degree from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin in 1957. He began his ministry as a high school teacher at MLS in Saginaw and continued as a pastor serving the following parishes, all in Michigan; Monroe, Flat Rock, Livonia, Owosso and Gladwin. During his 40 plus years of ministering, he served the Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod as president of its Michigan District and Chairman of the District's Stewardship Board and member of the Synod's Committee for Relief. Rev. Mueller was also a longtime chairman of the Board of Directors of the Martin Luther Memorial Homes of Michigan.
Robert is survived by his wife whom he was joined in marriage to on June 16, 1956, Donna C. (Sturm); Their marriage was blessed with four children, Paul (Julia) Mueller of Kingman, AZ, Mark (Torri) Mueller of Whitelaw, WI, Kurt (Hannah) Mueller of Flagstaff, AZ and Sharon (Eric) Dorow of Canton, MI; fourteen grandchildren, Katie Hutchinson, Lisa Avila, Jenni Albrecht, Kiara Potempa, Aaron Mueller, Caleb Mueller, Joseph Mueller and Andrea Habermann, Silas, James and Jacob Mueller, Joshua, Abram and Jesse Dorow; twenty three great grandchildren; brother, Gordon (Anita) Mueller; sister-in-law, Marlene Mueller and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Elliott Hutchinson; brothers, Gilbert Mueller and Glenn (Nan) Mueller and sister-in-law, Donna Mueller.
Funeral and Committal service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jacob M. Reich and Rev. Paul E. Schaewe with private interment in Lutheran Home Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Gephart Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Rev. Mueller will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to make a memorial contribution to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church of Bay City or Michigan Lutheran Seminary of Saginaw.
