Robert (Bob) Gregory Dean, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2011, in Bay City with his son and daughter at his side. Born November 25, 1923, in Bedford, Virginia, to Jack F. and Mildred Dean, Robert graduated from Central High School and Bay City Junior College, and earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of Michigan. He worked on the Great Lakes ore carriers before entering the military; he served with the 20th Air Force during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. In his 32 years working in advertising and communications at Dow Corning, Robert produced motion pictures, managed international trade shows, and wrote about silicones and other revolutionary materials as they were being developed. Robert was a life member of Wenona Masonic Lodge and the Bay City Consistory and sang in the choir at First Presbyterian Church for many years. He was active in Community Theater at the Bay City Players as well as in Midland and Saginaw. Robert worked and sang at Terry and Jerry's O Sole Mio Restaurant, and his rich tenor was a fixture at the restaurant for decades. Robert had a lifelong love of aviation and sailing. He especially loved sailing Lake Huron, the North Channel, and Georgian Bay areas. He had a younger brother, Jack, who passed away in 1985. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Dr. Terry Holmes of Signal Mountain, TN.; a son, Jason, of Los Angeles, CA; and three grandchildren, Hillary and Harrison Holmes and Veronica Dean. In accordance with Robert's wishes, cremation has taken place and no memorial service is planned. Memorial contributions can be made to Brian's House.
