Robert E. Martek

Robert E. Martek, Bay City, Michigan Robert (Bob) Martek passed away peacefully at St Ann's Nursing Home in Grand Rapids surrounded by family. Age 82 years. He was born October 25, 1932 in Bay City. After faithfully serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Bob worked for Michigan Bell Telephone until his retirement in 1993. He was a loving and devoted family man who enjoyed bowling, baseball, boating, fishing and travel. Bob is survived by his two daughters, Sister Maria Gemma Martek, OP, of Ann Arbor, and Jody (Chad) Montana of Grand Rapids; grandchildren Camden and Morgan Montana, his former spouse, Billie (David) Szutkowski; siblings Dorothy Napieralski, Rosemarie (Ron) Thume, and James (Nancy) Martek; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Jennie Martek, as well as by his brothers and sisters-in-law Eugene (Dolores) Martek and Steven (Mary Lou) Martek. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish - Saint Hyacinth's Catholic Church. With Reverend Father Christopher Coman as principal celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force and Bay County Veterans Council. Family and friends may pay their respects at Gephart Funeral Home, 201 W. Midland Street, on Sunday, March 22 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Martek will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, 4597 Warren Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
