Roberta passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at the Rachel Sovereign Memorial Home at the age of 95 years. Roberta was born on December 21, 1923 in Indianfields Township, Michigan and was the eighth of nine children of William Lewis and Ethel Mae Budd Witkovsky. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Caro High School in 1942. She worked at the J.C. Penney store in Caro until she followed her twin brother Robert to study at the Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City. There she met Marcus J. "Jack" Rappel whom she married on March 6, 1948 in Caro. Jack preceded her in death in 2007. After working as a secretary in the Bay City offices of Gulf Oil Co. and the Jennison Hardware Co. she became a full time housewife after the birth of her son, David. She was a member of Grace Church West Campus and formerly a member of Madison Avenue United Methodist Church for over fifty years and was active in the United Methodist Women.
Roberta is survived by her son, David Rappel; granddaughter, Laura (Chris) Plummer; great grandsons, Aaron and Jonah Plummer; several nieces and nephews and friends including her church family. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Eldon, Oenita, Earl, Clayton, Clifton, Loren, Donna and Robert.
Funeral and Committal services will take place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church - West Campus. Officiating will Eric D. Kieb with private burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit at the Gephart Funeral Home on Monday from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Mrs. Rappel will be taken to the church to lie in state on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
