Ruby Ball, 91, of Bay City, formerly of Standish and Fife Lake, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at her home, Sheffield Bay Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born June 25, 1925, in Fife Lake, the daughter of Alger and Rose Battenfield. She married Stanley Ball, who preceded her in death in 2002, on April 26, 1946 after Stan served his country on Okinawa during World War II. Ruby retired from Wolverine Knitting Mills in Bay City. Upon retirement, Ruby and Stan moved from Bay City to Fife Lake, and spent their winters in Florida until Stan's death, when she returned to Bay City until moving in to Sheffield Bay in 2014. Besides spending time with her family, Ruby loved reading and cooking. The family wishes to thank Sheffield Bay Assisted Living and McLaren Hospice, of Bay City. The staff from both organizations gave our dear mother and grandmother not only excellent, professional support and care, but provided her the rare gift of their friendship. Surviving are two children, four granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren: Kay (Bob) Coggins of Canton, and their daughters, Melissa Ellsworth of Farmington Hills; and Lori (Jim) Jacob, and their sons, Christian and Evan of Canton; and special grandson, Tim Ellsworth of Plymouth; Rick (Kathryn) Ball of Bay City and their daughters, Lisa (Scott) MacGregor and their daughter, Morgan MacGregor and her fiancé, Nate Milkowski all of Bay City; and Jennifer (Tom) Verellen and their children, Zachary and Lauren of Auburn. At the request of Mrs. Ball cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rande LaPrairie. Private inurnment will take place in June at the Springfield Township Clark Cemetery in Fife Lake. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to McLaren Hospice in Bay City.
