Ruth Ann Doorn

Mrs. Ruth Ann Doorn, of Bay City, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 30, 2013 at Sheffield Bay, at the age of 85. The daughter of the late Lloyd & Anna Brown, she was born on January 15, 1928 in Grand Rapids. On September 27, 1947 Ruth was united in marriage to Harold H. Doorn. Harold passed away on January 21, 2012. Ruth was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was retired from Bay Regional Medical Center and then spent many years as a hospital volunteer. Ruth enjoyed spending time with family and friends, RV'ing, and square dancing to country music. Ruth is survived by her son, Paul (Beth) Doorn of Waterford; her daughter, Sherry Mitchell (Ron Lesniak) of Bay City; two grandchildren, Jason (Darcy) Mitchell and Jamie Doorn; a great-grandson, Bryce Mitchell; a great-granddaughter, Avery Mitchell; her sister, Bev (Harold) Bailey of Grandville; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, LeNora (James) Waller of Clarkston, Jim Doorn of Florida, Jack Doorn of Grandville and Darlene Brown of Grandville; and several niece & nephews. Ruth was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald Brown; a brother-in-law, Sonny Doorn; and a sister-in-law, Mary Hofstra. Ruth's family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Sheffield Bay for everything they did for Ruth and the Doorn Family. It was Ruth's desire for cremation to take place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the U.A.W. Local 362 Hall, 4427 E. Wilder Rd., Bay City. A Memorial Service led by Rev. William H. Allwardt will begin at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
