Ruth Irene (Weiss) Johnston

Mrs. Ruth Irene (Weiss) Johnston, of Bay City, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 16, 2015 at her residence, age 88. The daughter of the late Floyd and Caroline (Martens) Sharp, she was born on May 27, 1926 in Bay City. Ruth was a graduate of Bay City Central High School, class of 1944. She retired from Newcor in Bay City. Ruth was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Circle. She was a former member of TOPS 1145. Ruth enjoyed doing needlepoint and playing word search games. Mrs. Johnston is survived by her two children, John Weiss of Sheridan, IL and Carol (Bryon) Jeske of Bay City; four step-children, William (Patti) Johnston of Bay City, Scott (Yoko) Johnston of Japan, Karen (Fred) Kaiser of Royal Oak and Marie Rabideau of Bay City; four grandchildren, David, James, Nathan and Bradley; seven step-grandchildren, Gretchen, Heidi, Fred, Krista, Alex, Ashley and Tabatha; many great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Weiss; a sister-in-law, Carol Sharp; and a brother-in-law, Ron Trezona. Besides her parents, Ruth was also preceded in death by her first husband, Norman C. Weiss in 1985; her second husband, Robert W. Johnston in 2007; a granddaughter, Stacie Jeske; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Weiss; and a brother-in-law, Erv Weiss. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Schramm. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Johnston will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
