Sgt. Maj. Thomas J. Strzelecki, of Bay City, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region, age 74. The son of the late Harry and Agnes (Dabrowski) Strzelecki, he was born on May 8, 1942 in Chicago. Tom served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 30 years, retiring as Sergeant Major. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with Combat V, a Purple Heart, a Combat Action Ribbon, a Presidential Unit Citation and numerous other campaign commendations. Tom then returned to Bay City and worked at Bay City Powertrain for 15 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, Holy Trinity Church.
On June 13, 1964 Tom married the former Clara M. Laskowski and she survives his passing along with their two children, Steven (Lisa) Strzelecki and Sheri (Brian) Strzelecki, all of Bay City; his beloved grandchildren, Derek (Victoria) Strzelecki and Luke Burel and his great-granddaughter, Genevieve; his two brothers, Harry P. (Elaine) Strzelecki and Daniel (Linda) Strzelecki; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Germaine (Maurice) O'Daniel, Thomas Laskowski, Allen (Judy) Laskowski and Terry Laskowski; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter "Bullit" and Eugenia Laskowski; and a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Walter "Jack" Laskowski, Julie Laskowski and Anne Laskowski.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Corpus Christi Parish, Holy Trinity Church. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm. Military Honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Sgt. Maj. Strzelecki will lie instate at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
