Sharon Fay Johnson (67), resident of Bay City, MI, a woman of unparalleled devotion and love, passed away unexpectedly at McLaren Bay City on Thursday, October 12, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Sharon was a loving and nurturing Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, loyal friend and an all-around charismatic person.
Sharon was born on October 20, 1955 at the Naval hospital in Cherry Point, NC, the daughter of Jean Gillum and Glen Gillum Sr. She graduated from Havelock High school in 1973, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. She then began her career as a Specialty Service Technician for the government, where she worked 41 years and went on to retire from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2015.
Anyone who met Sharon couldn’t help but smile, whether you knew her for a lifetime or for a short moment, she left a lasting impression. Her life was a true testament of the power of love. Sharon lit up any room she walked in and would go to war for her children and wouldn’t stop until she won the battle! She loved God, quality time with family (especially her grandchildren), dancing, cribbage, scrabble, journaling, the ocean, volunteering, attending sporting events, true crime shows, and celebrating holidays/special events with family.
Those left to carry on her legacy and memory are: her children, Michael (Allison) Lavender, Julie (Terry) Grimes, and Kelli (Nicole) Johnson; her grandsons, Dawson and Jack Lavender; her granddaughters Annabelle Lavender and Theodora Grimes; her twin sister, Karen Gillum, her brother Glen Gillum Jr, as well as nieces, nephews, dear friends and her fur baby Sophie. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Gillum and her father, Glen Gillum Sr.
To celebrate Sharon’s life, funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, 201 W. Midland St, Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Fr. Jose Cabrera. Viewing hours will start at 12:00 p.m. and will continue up until the start of service at 3:00 p.m. EST.
