Shirlee Lorraine Horen (Leivo)

Shirlee Lorraine (Leivo) Horen of Bay City, Michigan, passed away on December 1, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region. Shirlee was born in Bay City, to loving parents Philip and Ruth Leivo on September 12, 1934. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, the late Richard "Dick" J. Horen, on May 23, 1953, celebrating over 60 years of marriage. Shirlee spent many years as the co-owner of H&H Tax Service and working as a bookkeeper at her father's business (Industrial Design and Engineering). She was proud of her Finnish heritage and lived by the saying "Family is one of nature's masterpieces (perhe on yksi luonnon mestariteoksista)" In that spirit, she was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed hosting holiday celebrations and family dinners, baking chocolate chip cookies, and spending summer days with her family at Sleepy Oaks Campground. Shirlee was also an avid card player who loved playing Schmier with her friends.

Left with her memories are her four children, Cathy (Bill) LaLonde, Richard (Debra) Horen, Kelly (Brian) Crawford and Dean (Molly Rombach) Horen; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Billy and Jamie (Mitchell) LaLonde, Kristy and Gregory (Jacqueline and Sebastien) Daphnis, Natalie and Justin Wein, Matthew and Jenny Crawford (baby Crawford on the way), Stephanie and Jeremy (Olivia, Madelyn and Jackson) Sherman, Eric Crawford, Michael and Sarah (Sydney and Mackenzie) Horen, Megan and Brent Kochert, Philip Horen, and Samantha Horen; her sister-in-law, Shirley Revette; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband Shirlee was preceded in death by her brothers, Gordon and Thomas Leivo and her in-laws, Richard and Ruth Diehl and Lyle Revette.

At the request of Mrs. Horen cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Campbell with private inurnment in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the donor's favorite charity.
