Shirley Ann Schmidt (Maarleveld) Bay City, Michigan Our loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully, February 18, 2016 at Bay County Medical Care Facility. Age 85 years. The daughter of the late Peter and Eleanor (Reinhardt) Maarleveld, she was born April 26, 1930 in Bay City, MI and was a resident all of her life. She married Alfred R. Schmidt on September 24, 1949 and he predeceased her in death on July 27, 1984. Shirley graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1948 and was a former employee of Bay City Cash and Bay County Council of Churches. She was a lifetime member of First United Church of Christ, Bay City, and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former member of Linda Lee's Golden-Aires Boosters. Shirley was the cornerstone for her family. She loved baking, knitting and crocheting beautiful items, casino bus trips, polka dancing, and spending time with her family. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by four loving sons and their spouses: Dan (Linda) Schmidt of Kawkawlin; Tim (Beverly) Schmidt of Bay City, Rob (Sue) Schmidt of Bay City, and Terry (Tammie) Schmidt of Essexville; eight grandchildren: Connie (Mark) Kennedy, Mike Schmidt, Kurt (Rachel) Schmidt, Pete Schmidt, Andy Schmidt, Cassie (Tyler) Greshow, Karley Schmidt, and Paige Schmidt. Five great-grandchildren: Madison Schmidt, Katie Kennedy, Nathan Schmidt, Zachary Kennedy, and Brooke Schmidt; two step-grandchildren: Clifford (Jennifer) Bichel and Brittney Bichel; three step-great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Benjamin and William Bichel; her fiancé Norbert Wilczynski; her Godchildren Dinah (Cookie) Schmidt-Mika and James Manninen and many cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her great-grandson Brendan Thomas Kennedy. The Schmidt family would like to express their grateful appreciation to Carol Burnside and the staff of Bay County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful care and kindness shown to Shirley during the time they cared for her. The Funeral Service will take place Monday, February 22, 2016 at First United Church of Christ at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Shutske with interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive visitors on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Schmidt will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to First United Church of Christ or Bay County Medical Care Facility Activities Room Music Fund.
