Shirley Sicherd

Shirley Ann Sicherd's spirit went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 20. She was born in 1929, in Thetford Township Michigan, the daughter of Earl and Myrtle Thorne. As a young girl she moved to Bay City where she resided most of her life. She met William (Bill) Sicherd and they were married September 3, 1949. They built their home themselves on N. Chilson Street in Bay City and began their family. They were married for 51 years until his passing in July of 2000. During her life, family and friends were very important to her. There were many joyful times with her siblings, their spouses, nephews, nieces, her precious grandchildren and friends. She loved to have family gatherings and served her family in many weddings, showers and any other reason to gather. Her sense of humor was evident as you spent time with her. She attended West Baptist Church and helped serve using her gift of hospitality there.
In her earlier years, she worked as a very successful fashion consultant. She was an avid seamstress and for many years she taught tailor quality sewing classes. Shirley worked into her mid-seventies. While wintering in Arizona for many years, she was the social director for her community. She loved learning about many things, and loved to play Jeopardy - in fact was able to answer nearly every question correctly! Traveling was a favorite pastime and she spent months traveling the US and Europe. The arts were important to her and she used her talents in countless volunteer hours for her children's theatrical plays. Shirley played the saxophone and piano and loved to sing.
Shirley is survived by her two children Carol (and Mike) Rivette of Bay City Michigan and Joanne (and Terry) Elvers of Leesburg, Viginia. God has blessed her with 3 grandchildren Jennifer Rivette, Michael Rivette, and Parker Elvers. More blessings include her great grandchildren, Brittany (and Clarence), Joshua (and Mary), Kaitlyn (and Robby), Steven and Katana. She was also blessed with great, great grandchildren Clarabell, Kiera, Tavin, Myles, Brooklyn and Robby. Shirley's siblings are Clark (and Esther) Thorne, Bruce Thorne, Margaret (and Richard) Wegener, Robert (and Christina) Thorne, Ken (and Alice) Thorne, Paul Thorne, Joyce (and Bill) LeFevre, Phyllis Thorne and Richard Thorne.
Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill, Tuesday, April 25th at 2:30 PM at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bay City. There will be visitation at Gephart Funeral Home that evening at 6PM followed by a memorial service at 7PM officiated by Rev. Kurt Cullison. If you prefer, in lieu of flowers, you may consider memorials to the wishes of the family.
I Thessalonians 4:14, 16
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an arch angel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first.
