Mrs. Schatzer passed away Friday March 19, 2010 at her home with her family by her side following a brief illness. The daughter of the late Anthony & Clara Nashatka was born May 3, 1929 in Saginaw County. She married Martin F. Schatzer on June 12, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1981. She was an employee of the former Mercy Hospital and Nichols Foss Company. Sophia enjoyed polka music, playing the harmonica, and spending time with her family. She had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Sophia is survived by six loving children and their spouses, Ken (Nancy) Schatzer, Sandra (Bill) Marion, Linda (Dan) Schmidt, Harry (Tammy) Schatzer, Luke (Debra) Schatzer and Margie (Todd) Barr; sixteen grandchildren, Carolyn, Harry II, Brian, Brenda, Kelly, Connie, Kristy, Jill, Shalynn, Mike, Kurt, Megan, Lacey, Taylor, Gage and Kelsey; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter due in May; many nieces and nephews; five brothers and sisters, Leo (Julia) Nashatka, Stanley (Audrey) Gawlik, John (Betty) Gawlik, Frank (Joan) Gawlik and Patsy (Ronald) View; sisters-in-law, Meta Cody, F. Dale Schatzer, Beryl (Paul) Ulbricht, Elaine Schatzer, Caroline Nashatka and Anna Mae Nashatka. In addition to her parents, Sophia was also preceded in death by her step-father, John Gawlik; a great-grandson, Brendan Thomas Kennedy; four brothers, Allie, Anthony, Joe and Edward Natashka; and five sisters, Helen Knight, Angeline Daniels, Louise Collier, Betty Davis and Mary Reutter.The funeral service will take place Monday March 22, 2010 at 11:00am at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. John Williams with interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00pm, Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00pm and on Monday from 10:00am until time of service.
