Theresa Mae Penkala, of Bay City, passed away early Sunday, June 22, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region, age 87. The daughter of the late Adolph & Emma (Salois) Derocher, she was born June 15, 1927 in Flint. In 1953 Theresa married Walter L. Penkala, and he preceded her in death in 1996. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. For many years Theresa enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, sewing and crocheting. She loved the Detroit Tigers, Coca-Cola and Hershey Kisses. She also enjoyed her puzzle books and was a champion at word search. Mrs. Penkala is survived by her six children, Catherine Hardy, Anne (Christopher) Reder and Ron (Michelle) Penkala all of Bay City, RoseMary (Harry) Haney of Rhodes, John (Tammy) Penkala of Bay City and Bob (Sabrina) Penkala of Kawkawlin; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Tina Wiechec; four brothers and seven sisters; and many nieces & nephews. Mrs. Penkala was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Corbat; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa (Reder) Penkala. The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson and Sr. Virginia Scally, SNDdeN will officiate over the funeral rites with Committal following at Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Penkala will lie instate at the church on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Liturgy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
