Thomas E. Sequin Sr. of Bay City, MI, age 83, died at home Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, after a long illness. He was born April 30, 1928 to Paul and Anna (Panzner) Sequin, in Bay City Michigan. He graduated from St.Mary's High School in 1946 and from MSU in 1951with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Industrial Arts. He then served in the United States Army for six years. In 1955 Tom married Mary Jo Ryan and they enjoyed 56 years together. Tom, with his brother, Peter, developed Sequin Subdivision on land that was previously the family farm. He was a well respected residential builder. He was the founder of the Sequin Lumber-Standish and retired from that position in 1994. Tom was always active in his church, serving on many committees over the years. He had a special fondness for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and working in the food pantry. Tom was also involved in Bangor Township Recreation, coaching baseball when his sons were young and later as a member of the John Glenn booster club. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, going on many camping trips with Troop 121 when Tom & Tim were Scouts. Tom enjoyed playing golf, the many dinner parties with special friends and the card games that followed. He loved travelling and was proud to have visited all fifty states. Tom had the pleasure of making many hunting trips to Western states and always looked forward to them. He was exceptionally proud of his six children and their strong faith, morals and work ethic. When Tom was healthy, he was a member of Knights of Columbus council 414, SVDP ushers club, Bay County Home Builders, and volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society. He always wanted to attend all the concerts in the park and all other special entertainment events in Bay City. Besides his wife, Mary Jo, Tom is survived by his children: Thomas (Denise) Sequin, Bay City, Karen (Timothy) Kochanny, Charlevoix, Mi., Timothy (Nan) Sequin, Bay City, Rita (Rick) Howard, Rochester Hills, Mi., Cynthia (CAPT. Craig Neitzke, DDS.,USN) Annapolis, Md., Jane (Michael) Brunette, Cranberry Twp., Pa. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Tom was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings: Brothers, Arthur, Peter, Felix, Alfred Sequin and sisters: Mabel Fredrick, Gladys LaMoria, Cecelia Trudell and also infant son David John Sequin and infant granddaughter Grace Alyssa Howard. Tom's family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Dr. Campau, Tim Bishop and Denise Dilloway for their compassionate care during his long illness. We could not have taken care of Tom at home without them. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert J. Meissner with the Rite of Committal following Calvary Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. for the Bible Presentation followed by the Vigil for the Deceased. Mr. Sequin will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. and until the time of the Mass. Memorial cards for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Heartland Hospice or Helen M. Nickless volunteer clinic, will be available at the funeral home.
