Mr. Younkman passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region surrounded by his family. Age 71 years. The son of the late Sidney and Catherine (Bethune) Younkman was born July 12, 1946 in Hazard, Kentucky. Mr. Younkman was retired from the Bay City Times as a journalist and was a writer, author, historian, musician and a member of the Civil War Round Table. Mr. Younkman enjoyed doing lectures at S.V.S.U. and coached basketball and softball for over 20 years.
Mr. Younkman is survived by his seven children, Julia Rivera, William Younkman, Lee (Heather) Younkman, Jonathon Younkman, Laicy (John) Madrid, Catherine Younkman and Sarah Younkman; fourteen grandchildren; one sister, Judy (Phillip) Kell; one niece and one nephew. In addition to his parents Mr. Younkman was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Eileen Stout and his aunt Mary and uncle Ken.
Funeral and Committal services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Steven Korth with private interment in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
