Walter passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth at the age of 99 years. He was born in Kawkawlin, Michigan on February 6, 1921 to the late William and Lena (Baumann) Friebe. On June 22, 1946 he married the former Betty Behmlander at St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church. Walter was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Bartholomew Ev. Lutheran Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police during World War II, retired from the Grey Iron Foundry and enjoyed farming.
Walter is survived by his wife, Betty Margaret (Behmlander) Friebe; two daughters, Diane Cereske and Marilyn Willis; four grandchildren, Wayne Willis, Dr. Nick (Dr. Holly Beth) Willis, Amanda (Marty) Williams and Julie Ann (Mark) Weaver, four great grandchildren, Harrison Willis, John Willis, Sarah Katherine Willis and Sydney Weaver and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by his three brothers, Lawrence Friebe, Henry Friebe and William Friebe and four sisters, Era Friebe, Hulda Dengler, Viola Friebe and Leona Reinke.
Private family services have taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to make memorial contributions to St. Barthomew Ev. Lutheran Church or Michigan Lutheran Seminary.
