Wilfred Allen Shorkey "Bay City" Bay City, Michigan Our loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly Sunday evening May 22, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 69 years. The son of the late Robert and Elaine (Grandmaison) Shorkey was born on April 22, 1947 in Bay City and has resided here all of his life. Wil proudly served his Country in the United States Army, retired from General Motors Powertrain, he was a member of the U.A.W. Local 362 and Our Lady of Peace Parish. Wil had a great interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren, was always looking forward to helping his sons with many projects, attending events of his grandchildren and enjoyed camping and woodworking. He was happiest when he was spending time with his wife and family, a true family man that will be deeply missed. Wil will be remembered for his dedication, commitment and the love he showed to his family. On October 18, 1969 he married his wife of forty six years, the former Julie Mersdorf and she is left to cherish his memories along with two sons and one daughter-in-law; Todd and Marla Shorkey of Bay City and Jeff Shorkey of Essexville, five grandchildren; Landry, Hannah, Emily, Ethan and Quinn, one; brother; Larry Shorkey of Bay City, one sister and brother-in-law; Roberta and Gerald VanAlst of Bay City and his nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Robert and Elaine he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Ray and Cecelia (LaFond) Mersdorf and one sister-in-law; Donna Shorkey. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Thursday May 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish - St. Mary's Church (607 E. South Union St. Bay City, Michigan). Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Patrick M. Jankowiak with the Rite of Committal following under the Auspices of the United States Army and the Bay County Veterans Council in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive visitors on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Shorkey will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation
