William R. Bair

Mr. William R. Bair, of Bay City, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Sheffield Bay, age 87. The son of the late Raymond and Gladys (Michaels) Bair, he was born on April 12, 1927 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Bill served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Bay Valley Resort as the golf course superintendent in 1990. Bill had also worked at Lakewood Shores Golf Resort in Oscoda and Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Bill enjoyed playing golf but his true passion was the care he gave to his golf courses and his own lawn. On February 15, 1986 Bill married the former Gladis M. Toland and she survives him along with three children, William R. Bair, Jr. of Saginaw, Barbara Crow of Freeland and Tina (Terry) Sempek of Washington; a step-daughter, Karin (Ralph) Youngblood of Onsted, MI; his grandchildren, Dawn, Shawn, Jeremy, Alex, Faith, Chrissy, Amie and Stacie; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy (Bill) Timmer of Washington; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was also preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice A. Bair; a daughter, Debbie Gordon; a sister, Mary Louise Bair; and his brother, Emil Bair. It was Mr. Bair's desire for cremation to take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. John W. Wernecke. Private burial will take place at Arborcrest Cemetery in Ann Arbor. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
