William "Bill" loving husband, father and grandfather, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Ascension St. Mary's with his family by his side at the age of 84 years. William was born in Frankenlust Township on October 22, 1934 to the late Carl and Mary (Feinauer) Appold. William married the love of his life the former Deloris Knoerr on May 2, 1959 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Amelith by the Reverend Fred Bickel. They were married for 60 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust and sang in the choir for almost 70 years. Bill proudly served his country in the National Guard. He played Federation baseball for St. Paul for many years. He worked for Wieland Contracting and Gregory Construction for about 43 years. He was also a part time farmer. In his retirement he enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and the orchard. Above all he enjoyed his family and watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
William is survived by his wife, Deloris; children, Annette (Robert) Schunter of Flushing, Carrie Appold of Mt. Pleasant and Brian Appold of Bay City; grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Schunter, Sara (Alex) Brehm, Dylan and Jake Appold; brother, Marvin (Nancy) Appold; sister, Sue (Ray) Fick; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlene VanOoteghem, Donna Wegener, Betty and Bud Scherzer, Ron and Pam Knoerr, Judy and Jim Warmbier and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Luella Appold and brothers and sister-in-law, Mary Ann and Elmer Oswald, William VanOoteghem and Marvin Wegener.
Funeral service will take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis W. Matyas with committal and burial in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Appold will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
